Activity ideas for all the family

A fun day out is a great way to get the whole family active. But sometimes finding something everyone will like can be a challenge! If you’re looking for group activities that take place in your area, keep an eye on local noticeboards in parks or at community centres for adverts of upcoming classes. Lots of communities will have plenty of classes such as yoga, running, dancing or football!

If you’re not sure where to start, apps and online resources can be a great way to look for ideas which even the kids will like! At Making Sense of Sugar, we’ve done some of the hard work for you and pulled together some ideas to help get the kids moving – whatever your budget.

Pokémon Go
Get out and about with the kids to find all the Pokémon in your local area! The kids will love it because it feels like a video game, you’ll love it because they are getting some fresh air!
Another great one to get the kids outside. Use your mobile phone to find hide and seek containers, called “geocaches” or “caches”, at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world!
Just Dance Now
Dancing counts as exercise! Just Dance lets you compete with other dancers around the world using just a smartphone or computer – a great one for kids who love to show off their moves
GoNoodle videos will get the kids moving, helping them to be their strongest, bravest, silliest, smartest and best selves. Over 14 million kids each month are dancing, stretching, running, jumping, deep breathing and wiggling with GoNoodle.
Cosmic Kids Yoga (YouTube)
These are yoga, mindfulness and relaxation videos designed especially for kids aged three years and up. Whatever your kid’s interests, there will be themed episodes to match – from Pokémon to Frozen and everything in between!
